Privacy Policy
What PortWin and this website collect, and what they don’t.
Effective October 7, 2026
The short version
PortWin has no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. It goes online only to check your license, check for updates and download what your programs need — and to send a problem report when you press Send yourself.
Who we are
PortWin is made by Kuka Soft (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at kukalab@icloud.com.
What the app sends
- License checks. When you activate, check or deactivate a license key, PortWin sends the key, an installation ID and the name of your Mac (as set in System Settings → General → Sharing) to Lemon Squeezy, our payment and licensing provider. The Mac name lets you recognize your activations; you can rename your Mac before activating if you prefer. The trial start date and your license are stored only in the macOS Keychain on your Mac.
- Update checks. Once a day, and when you choose Check for Updates, PortWin fetches a small file with the latest version number from GitHub; if you agree to update, the update is downloaded from GitHub too. GitHub sees your IP address and the app’s version. No identifier of you or your Mac is sent. You can turn automatic checks off in PortWin Settings.
- Downloads. Recipes and Windows components download installers from their publishers (for example Valve, Epic Games, GOG, Blizzard and Microsoft), from the open-source Winetricks project, or from PortWin’s own mirror on GitHub. So that you don’t have to wait later, PortWin downloads the most common components (Visual C++, DirectX and fonts, about 150 MB) in the background over Wi-Fi; you can turn this off in Settings. Optional engines such as Wine 11 are downloaded from GitHub when you ask for them. System Check contacts microsoft.com and github.com to see whether they are reachable. All these servers see your IP address, as with any download, under their own privacy policies.
- Problem reports — only when you press Send. Help → Report a Problem prepares a report and tells you what is in it. If you send it, it travels through our server on Google Firebase (EU region) to our mailbox. A report contains: your description; your email address, if you choose to give one; the versions of PortWin and macOS; your processor model, memory size and free disk space; the settings of the bottle; the names and locations of the programs in it and its installed components; and the most recent logs of that bottle. Your macOS user name is removed from file paths. Logs may mention the names of files a Windows program opened. We use a report only to investigate your problem and delete it within 12 months. Nothing is sent unless you press Send.
- Programs you run. Windows programs running in PortWin — Steam, launchers, games and others — connect to the internet on their own, under their publishers’ privacy policies. PortWin does not monitor or record what they send.
- Nothing else. PortWin does not collect usage statistics, automatic crash reports, the list of your programs or games, or the contents of your files. Logs, bottles and their backups stay on your Mac in
~/Library/Application Support/PortWin.
Purchases
Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy receives your email address, billing details and payment information under its privacy policy. We receive your email address and order details so that we can deliver and support your license. We never see your full card number.
This website
portwin.kuka-soft.com is hosted on Google Firebase Hosting, which processes standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver the pages. The site sets no cookies and uses no analytics. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. The download button links to GitHub, which applies its own privacy statement.
Your choices and rights
You can deactivate your license from PortWin Settings → License at any time, which removes the activation record for that Mac. To request access to or deletion of the order data or problem reports we hold, contact us at kukalab@icloud.com. Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have additional rights under local law, and we will honor them.
Children
PortWin is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date below and describe significant changes in the release notes.
